Rex is a surprise guest artist- with a background including studying at Berklee School of Music-He combines the skills of a keyboard artist, with roots music, bringing in musical influences from Ghana, with a gyil- (OK- you will have to come and see it if you want to know what this is). Raised in Georgia, and through many travels and turns, has turned back up in Atlanta to bring some new music to our city!


Rex Hussmann earned his B.M. from Berklee College of Music in 2004. He has collaborated with artists such as Esperanza Spalding, Peter Wolf (J. Geils Band), Dana Colley (Morphine), Railbird and many others. He performs keys, vocals, accordion, and gyil, a traditional instrument from Ghana. Hussmann began studying gyil in 2004 when he took a three month trip to Ghana and studied traditional music with local masters in rural villages. He has since continued his studies with gyil master and Saturday Night Live Band percussionist Valerie Naranjo.

His project The Rex Complex, co-founded in 2006 with drummer Jeremy Gustin, has been praised by NYC Deli Magazine, Boston Metro, New England Performer,,, and countless others. Hussmann has eight years of piano teaching experience with children and adults. He has taught at Brooklyn Friends School, Antonelli’s Music in Boston, NYC Rock Camp, and in his own private studio. He recently moved from Brooklyn, NY to his hometown Atlanta, GA in 2012 to be closer to family. He is currently working on new material and will be performing regularly in ATL.
